Short film scripts and charaters

Plot

The main character/hero wants something, takes action but has some conflict which leads to the climax of the film and then finally a resolution happens (the end)

Features that can make a short film rememberable:

  • A interesting and new plot line but be simple, only one main incident or conflict.
  • Characters that we feel for by being shown backdrop of their life. Show don't tell, for example in The Iron Giant, you see a picture of a man in a pilot uniform getting in a plane on the Hograth's bedside table. Nothing is said about his farther but with that one shot of that plot the audience knows his father daed in war.
  • Some surprise or twists to the plot, for example like the film The Sixth Sense by M. Night Shyamalan.
  • Have a theme and a genre, something the director and writer wants to say about the character or situation.
Features that can make a short film unsatisfying:
  • It is confusing, don't make the plot over complicated
  • it feels like the beginning of something bigger, it did not stand on it's own.
  • It is too long as the audience losers interest.
  • It is not emotionally satisfying.
Key questions:
  1. What is the film about?
  2. What is the genre?
  3. Who is the protagonist?
  4. Who is the nemesis (that has opposes your protagonist?)
  5. What is the driving action to your story?
My favourite short films that inspire me.
